Join me in experiencing my adventures and excitement on my photo shoots, as I unwrap my journey involved in capturing images that linger, whilst reflecting spectacular scenery that soak the soul with peace and hope!
Point Danger is one of my favourite photo shoot beaches. It is more like a cove and the conditions, weather, and surf, are mostly favourable. I have had numerous incredible shoots from this beach. When I arrived at Point Danger, the clouds were suspended heavily over the horizon. I could see that rain was imminent.
As I gathered my photographic gear together, I ensured my umbrella was with me. The clouds started separating, although it is a beach renowned for surfers, the beach was empty of surfers and people in general, that morning.
I could see why, the surf was flat, whilst the wind was picking up. Point Danger is an iconic surfing spot, during the winter months, the surfers arrive before dawn to get a good ‘spot’!
Naturally, I followed the sun which shone brightly across the shoreline; however, it did not take too long before the weather deteriorated. I had my umbrella up in an instant and protected my lens against the wind.
Over time, it has become easier shooting with an umbrella, whilst changing my focal length on my lens and changing photographic filters as well as ensuring my lens is accurately focused on my subject matter.
Although I packed up early as the best light had disappeared with the cloud cover, I continued to shoot the moodiness of the moment. Clouds make such an impact, don’t they?
During the early years of my photography, I always wanted the ‘perfect’ conditions which resembled a blue sky and the sun. But now I know the value of clouds and the difference they can make to alter the mood of an image, in a great and positive way.
I walked off the beach in a good frame of mind as although the shoot was short, it was positively impacting and worth the drive. Nothing comes from nothing, and putting a little effort into something that is pleasurable is worth it, isn’t it?
