Join me in experiencing my adventures and excitement on my photo shoots, as I unwrap my journey involved in capturing images that linger, whilst reflecting spectacular scenery that soak the soul with peace and hope!
With experience, I am (mostly) able to recognise a sunrise, pre-dawn, as I step onto a beach, just before first light.
That was the case with this image. Surfers Paradise is a gorgeous location. The other benefit is it is close to home. The coastline is ‘embraced’ by an abundance of luxury accommodation. This wonderful location is world renowned for its beauty, great weather, and tourist attractions.
As I walked onto the beach before dawn, I knew I was going to have a busy time with my camera. The weather conditions were perfect. Great clouds, a light breeze, brilliant light, and good wave conditions. What else could a photographer ask for?
I settled my tripod on the sand. As I wear waders, it is a great advantage, particularly in the cold winter months. I shoot from the shoreline. Depending on the waves and their size, it is always an exciting time. Full on and thrilling, particularly in big surf.
It was necessary for me to settle into the sunrise conditions early, as it is easy to become distracted with the light. Sometimes the light lasts for some time, and, at other times, it doesn’t last long at all.
Composition is an all-important factor in photography. I was very much aware of how quickly the light was changing before me. I used every opportunity to squeeze every millisecond and ounce of colour into each image.
The water was literally lapping at my feet, which of course, is unusual at the coast. I was thrilled when I walked off the beach as I was sure I had captured something to remember that sunrise by.
