Join me in experiencing my adventures and excitement on my photo shoots, as I unwrap my journey involved in capturing images that linger, whilst reflecting spectacular scenery that soak the soul with peace and hope!
This location is out of this world. I stayed in a unit that offered views that were indescribable. Lake Dunstan in front of the unit, whilst the majestic Mt Pisa framed the back of the unit in a magnificent way.
Cromwell is conveniently located to Queenstown, only an hour’s drive away. It boasts a fertile valley for fruit growers and vineyards that yield impressive wines. The farmers use large fan blades to keep the frost at bay during the winter months.
The blades are used to keep the air moving so the frost won’t settle. It is interesting during the early hours of the morning to hear the volume of those blades before sunrise. They sound like helicopters.
When I arrived in South Island, I was hoping for snow, even though it was approaching the end of October. It is not unusual to have snow on Christmas day in New Zealand. I was not disappointed as it snowed during the early hours of the morning when I arrived at the unit.
The advantage of being at this location and superb accommodation was the convenience of being able to walk out of the door and to start my photo shoots. It was freezing cold, just below freezing point, but I always bring enough warm clothing with me.
So, being fully rugged up, I stepped out into the frosty conditions of the early morning, and I composed my first shot as first light was emerging. The scene before me was beautiful, calm, and peaceful.
It was so cold it did not take long for my photographic filters to start misting up, but that was ok, the solution was in the cloth I always have on me. It did not take long for the sun to make an appearance and for the world around me to come alive with harmonious bird sounds. This is the head of Lake Dunstan, which is an impressive-sized lake on the peripheral of Cromwell.
When I packed my equipment away, I knew it was a good shoot, I was looking forward to witnessing the beauty I had captured on that early frosty morning. So, all it took was walking a minute to my bedroom sliding door to experience the warmth of my bedroom. It was a memorable shoot for every good reason.
