Beckon!

Come with me as I unpack my experiences associated with this photoshoot.

I left home during the early hours of the morning. The road conditions were good. There was little traffic. I drove over the Crown Range. Fortunately, there was no ice on the road.

Lake Wanaka is renowned for That Wanaka Tree. I had decided not to capture the tree at sunrise as I had done so often in the past.

When I arrived at the lake, the car park was empty. But it did not take long when enthusiastic photographers started making their way to the lake.

From experience, I know the importance of being prepared and ready at this wonderful location. I stepped into the calm lake. The sunrise was magnificent. The other photographers who accompanied me to the water, were focused on That Wanaka Tree.

As the light was becoming more evident, I secured my tripod amongst the stones in the water. Of course my camera was secured to my tripod by this time. By looking at the stones, you can see my tripod was fairly close to the water. My intention was to capture the effect of the light, with the stones making an interesting impact.

Although photographers were present, as I have already mentioned, it was fairly quiet due to Covid. As I wear waders, I am able to step into deeper water, which I have done on many occasions in this wonderful lake.

Once the sun had risen, I captured That Wanaka Tree. It was one of the most memorable photo shoots I had experienced in a while.

When I packed my photographic equipment away, I felt happy and content.
