I will remember this photo shoot for a long time. I drove from Glenorchy to this incredible location en route to Queenstown. The weather conditions were perfect.
The road between Queenstown and Glenorchy is scenic. The road ribbons along Lake Wakatipu. The scenery is spectacular. I am familiar with this route. I have travelled along it on several occasions.
I turned off the main road and motored along a minor road. During the winter time, the road conditions are hazardous. They are icy and not recommended to travel on in the dark.
After an inspirational photo shoot earlier in the morning, my energy levels were high. The scenery in this region is beautiful beyond description.
As I drove towards this lake, I was reminded of the first time I saw it. The lake was solid ice. The mountain ranges covered in snow.
It is unusual to experience consistently good weather in this region. Calm.
I walked towards the lake. Secured my camera to my tripod and choose a good spot to shoot from. The mountains wrapped around me like a blanket. Soothing to my soul. Whilst the water reflected a mirror image of the mountains. Sounds of silence.
The contrast of the warm colours of the mountains against the coolness of the water and sky were striking.
It was a moment that continues to linger in my memory.
