Catch the Fire – burning sugar cane leaves

Each month Clare opens up her photography journal and takes us behind some of her images. This is Catch the Fire, shot in Mona, Northern Queensland.

From Clare’s Journal

I captured this image at sunset in Mona, Northern Queensland, Australia.

The district is renowned for growing mangos and sugar cane. The farmers burn the sugar cane leaves when the sugar cane is about to be harvested.

I captured this incredible scene as I stood on a nearby farm. The polluted clouds appear dramatic during the sunset. It was the first time I had witnessed the effect of farmers burning sugar cane leaves.
