Enlighten

Date: January 1st, 2017, Posted by keith

Location: Central Park, New York, USA

The morning was beautiful. I arrived at Central Park just before dawn to set myself up for my shoot.

I had visited this location before, but I noticed a different perspective to shoot from, in the form of a sizeable rock. It protruded perfectly out of the water, offering an interesting dynamic to my images.

The weather was changeable, which I enjoy, as it varies the moods of what I capture. In a spontaneous moment, the light broke out right in front of me into the most indescribable profusion of colour. A snapshot, in an instant, I rotated my camera on the tripod and captured this gorgeous light.

Contentment

cpp0178_contentment

Today I celebrate the release of my new website with a unique image, ‘Contentment’.

‘Contentment’ is a Limited Edition, (20 images to be released in total).

It is a classic, timeless piece that is an invaluable investment.

Sometimes the best things in life evolve from spontaneity. As a photographer I am a keen weather watcher.

At the time I captured ‘Contentment’, I had been observing the weather patterns with intentionality, as to when the snow would make an appearance on the lower slopes of Cardrona, which is close to where we live.

As soon as the moment presented itself, and I knew the conditions were favourable, we drove to our destination, where it was snowing.

The light conditions for photography were perfect and so was the depth of the snow. Once I had completed my photoshoot in the small settlement of Cardrona, my intentionality was to capture something special on the peripheral of that settlement.

Driving towards Wanaka, we noticed a road that was perfect for what I imagined to be secluded and tucked away from the main tourist route.

As we ascended the hill, I instinctively knew we had arrived at the right spot as I was convinced the scenery would evoke emotions and tell a story. Your story.

‘Contentment’ is an image that is unique as it is beautifully blended and yet so intriguingly contrasted with colours and moods that transport one to another place and space.

What message does ‘Contentment’ convey to you?

Perfect Peace

Date: October 13th, 2016, Posted by keith

Location: Lake Wanaka, Wanaka, Otago, South Island, New Zealand

Poplar trees, distinctly gold in colour, alongside the lake edge resemble soldiers standing to attention. Their dramatic colours are striking against the sky and the intense blue water of the lake as the smooth stones reveal the clarity of the water.

Although the scene is striking, it is also peaceful as ‘That Wanaka Tree’ appears to be extending itself effortlessly above and across the lake’s surface. The wispy cloud and light fog on the right hand side, soften the dynamics to the left of this image.

Inviting

Location: Lake Wanaka, Wanaka, Otago, South Island, New Zealand

The morning I captured this image was almost breath-taking. The sunrise was consistently impressive. The scene improved as the sun cracked above the horizon. Perfectly calm conditions reveal the clarity of the water and the presence of the rounded stones.

Intense golden spun fog drifts with momentum, spreading across the lake like an impressive golden tablecloth. The clouds draw you into the picture representing a strong leading line. They almost resemble a ‘ceiling’ layer. ‘That Wanaka Tree’ lends an artistic edge to the scene.

Arriving at the location early, I was fortunate enough to have a great vantage point, which proved to be beneficial.

Exhilarating

Location: Otago, South Island, New Zealand

As I made my way around the hills, my tyres clung closely to the road, then I saw this out of the ordinary scene before me.
Majestic mountain ranges, cutting a sharp picture, a lake with clear blue water, with an abundance of trout fish and trees clinging tightly to the edge of the lake. Indescribable beauty!

Rich in a tapestry of colours perfectly woven together and reflections that only nature can portray with such profound perfection.
The sounds of silence were prevalent as there were only a scattering of people who were absorbing the spectacular sight, as I was. I drove away with such a sense of peace in my soul. A truly memorable moment.

Travelling along the road less travelled is my intentionality in capturing scenes that are organic and perceived from a different perspective.

Weather conditions were conducive to ice and a respectable depth of snow on higher lying ground. I noticed a minor road that wound towards homes scattered on a hill. As I advanced up the hill, my instincts informed me it was a great location.

As I prepared myself for my shoot, I could see the obvious advantages of capturing a special place in the heart of the country that was out of reach of the everyday rush of humanity.

Of course the clouds are a good blend, interspersed with light and interesting hints of colour. The scene is tranquil and transports you to another place and space.

Out of the Ordinary

Date: October 13th, 2016, Posted by keith

Location: Lake Wanaka, Wanaka, Otago, South Island, New Zealand
‘That Wanaka Tree’ was devoid of photographers the morning I captured the tree. As I was appreciating capturing the tree by being on my own, I decided to see how close I could walk towards it, without fully adjusting my focal length.
Naturally I was restricted by the height of my tripod. As I advanced towards the tree, it necessitated my increasing my tripod legs. Suddenly I realised it was time to be content as to how close I was to the tree due to the depth of the water.
I appreciated wearing my waders that morning more than ever before. Even at that depth, the rounded stones were clearly visible.

Conqueror!

Location: Victoria, Australia
Arriving at this location whilst it was pouring with rain and the wind was gusting. I walked along the rock shelf dressed in waders, which was fortuitous. Capturing images under some extreme weather conditions enabled me to accurately portray the weather at the time.

Exquisite!

Date: October 13th, 2016, Posted by keith

Location: Victoria, Australia

After experiencing the tumultuous conditions earlier in the day, I positioned myself on a small heap of rocks and waited patiently for God to splash the sky with His extravagantly rich colours, which He did.

I was fairly protected in an alcove, but at times the wind whipped the waves adding to the dramatics of the moment.

In an instant the ocean turned red before me. I was absolutely absorbed in the magnificence of God showcasing His creative genius.

Peaceful Paradise

Location: Horseshoe Bend, Page, Arizona, USA
Horseshoe Bend is truly indescribable. The Colorado River meanders impressively around this rock formation. I arrived before dawn and enjoyed a good vantage point. The sky was painted in beautiful hues of pink and blue. People were camping alongside the river. The walk was worth it as the beauty was indescribable!

Delightful

Date: October 13th, 2016, Posted by keith

Location: Mesa Arch, Canyonlands National Park, Utah, USA

Mesa Arch is iconic amongst photographers universally. As the sun was about to burst its brilliance across the valley, the area became congested with fellow photographers.

The arch comes alive with colour, an intense golden glow ‘washes’ the rock formation when the sun cracks the horizon. The effect is impressive and breath-taking! It was worth the wait!

Location: Slot Canyon, Page, Arizona, USA

This image is a double award winning image.

It was a rewarding experience walking through this slot canyon. Beauty beyond imagination. A secret canyon, best kept that way! I was fortunate to be part of an intimate group, who were honouring and a pleasure to be with.

This canyon did not involve any climbing. The light changes persistently, which is perfect for showcasing inspirational colours!

Uplifting

Date: October 12th, 2016, Posted by keith

Location: Brisbane City, Queensland, Australia

There was nothing too special when the light first made an appearance. But as the early morning light intensified, the fog became more golden in colour and settled upon the city; resembling a light blanket as it wraps itself loosely around Brisbane. The sun radiates and penetrates the covering, releasing rare beauty!

Illumination

Location: Springbrook National Park, Natural Bridge, Gold Coast Hinterland, Queensland, Australia

Natural Bridge as it is officially known is intriguing. I was captivated by the sheer contrast of this remote destination. It is striking and perfectly represents a balance of peace and power, light and darkness, as reproduced in life!
